Hi my lovely readers!
I have not made a blog post in awhile. I am trying to find a balance between work, home life and improving my Instagram account so time spent on blogging has fallen short lately. I am new to blogging on Instagram but I have grown to love it. I am slowly increasing my followers and last month when Banana Republic reposted and featured my picture on their website, that was all the encouragement I needed to keep pushing myself to provide quality content. But anyway what I really want to discuss today is how to expand your wardrobe/style.
I know that it is easy to get stuck in your comfort zone with your style. Do you know someone who likes that one shirt so they buy it in five different colors? This post is to encourage you to step outside your comfort zone and try something new. I am not saying to change who you are completely but I will provide some tips that will help you be more open minded to new trends, prints and colors. And trust me, I struggle with this as well, as a girl whose favorite color is black, I have followed my own tips and it has helped me to have a more interesting wardrobe while staying true to myself. So let’s get started!
Get out of your comfort zone-
Trying something new always brings an edge to your wardrobe. For example, I never liked wearing t-shirts. I thought t-shirts were very casual and something that could not look cute with just a pair of jeans. I decided to get out of my comfort zone and bought several t-shirts. I am learning to dress it up and to make it my own (future post about dressing up tees). Now I love to just throw on a t-shirt with a cute trendy skirt and be out the door! I have gotten complements on my outfit as well so getting out of your comfort zones helps to broaden your style.
Pick trends that interest you-
You do not have to like every trend, but picking ones that you enjoy can really spruce up your wardrobe. I love the current off the shoulder and cold shoulder looks. I think this trend may stay current much longer. Other current trends this Spring are, oversize jacket or blouse, ruffles, embroidery, loafers/mules, the color blush, and pinstripes. Try to pick a few from this list, it doesn’t hurt to mix it up a bit! This spring, I choose to wear several trends such as the pinstriped shirt with a pair of boyfriend jeans. In the picture below I picked the printed loafers with an oversized shirtdress. I love this look because it is comfortable but also adds fashion-forward edge to my wardrobe.
Know your closet-
If you own something that looks similar to what you already have in your closet, please leave it in the store. Try to branch out into something that you don’t already own. Pick different colors, prints or shapes that might not be something that you would buy on a regular basis. For example, I use to love buying tops where you tie a bow around the neck. One day my friend said, “don’t you have a shirt similar to that one in your closet”? That is when I knew it was time to broaden my style. Make an effort to mix and match your outfits but still stay true to yourself.
The best part is to have fun! Shopping is supposed to be enjoyable and not stressful! Shopping should excite you, help you to express yourself and you should have fun building that wardrobe that has you written all over it!
