Having a newborn can be quite a rollercoaster! It is a blessing and I love my sweet baby girl but I am also real with myself and can say that being a mom is hard! I am always on the go and barely have time to do things for myself or even sit on the toilet (I’m dramatic but sometimes it’s true)! When I sit down and rest, I realize that it is important to take time for myself. It is not just good for my health but it also makes me a better mom. Often times as a new mom you get in this funk or routine and is so focus on the baby you forget about yourself. When I go to dr. appointments I always have to fill out paperwork evaluating if I have postpartum. My paperwork always came back clear but I can see how someone could get into a runt when becoming a mom and why self reflection is necessary.
What does self-care look like when you hardly have time to brush your hair? Self-care does not have to be a full spa day or a whole day away from your baby. It really is doing something that makes you feel good and it can be as short as five minutes. Below I will give some examples of activities I squeeze into my day to give myself permission to take a break.
-Get Outside: fresh air makes me feel refresh! I have to force myself out of bed to take a walk and breath in the air but when I get outside it feels great!
-Get your nails done: leaving for an hour to get a pedicure or nails painted makes me feel put together
– Put on makeup: I know that is hard to do when you are busy and have tons to do; however, I find putting on makeup gives me the confidence I needed after giving birth. My hormones went crazy and my skin was doing crazy things. Makeup made me look awake and pretty.
-Take a bath: drop in a bath bomb and try to relax. Being away for an hour is OKAY (I continue to remind myself).
-Try to get back to your skincare routine: I know after I had Naomi my skincare routine was off ( I mean everything was off). It felt good to get back to my skincare routine and masking regularly etc.
Hellobody gifted me with the perfect items to add to my skincare regimen. The Coco Clear Mud Mask is not like other mask. It does not come on thick but instead thin and hydrating. It deeply cleans the pores in the skin and fights acne. They also have the Coco Fresh Face foaming cleanser that gives the skin that clean squeaky feeling. Trying new skincare items especially from Hellobody is just the thing I need to get me back to taking care of my skin!
Mom guilt is real but remember that the baby is healthy when mommy is happy and healthy. Take care of yourself and find time for yourself.
